About the Presenters
Barney Jordaan
Barney Jordaan is a labour law and labour relations practitioner and Director of Maserumule Consulting. He was admitted as an attorney in 1983 and was Professor of Law at Stellenbosch University until 1997. He is currently extraordinary professor at the Graduate School of Business of
Stellenbosch University where he teaches employment law, employment relations, negotiations and conflict management. He is also director of the USB's Africa Centre for Dispute Settlement and is visiting lecturer at the GSB of the University of Cape Town. He has been active as a mediator and
arbitrator for many years and has written extensively on labour law and is
co-author of, and contributor to, a number of books and publications.
John Grogan
John Grogan is one of the most prolific and respected writers on labour law in South Africa. He is the author of three leading labour law texts, namely Worplace Law, Dismissal, Discrimination and Unfair Labour Practices and Collective Labour Law. Dr Grogan has been involved in the practice and teaching of labour law for over 20 years, and left his position as head of the Department of Law at Rhodes University for private practice as a labour lawyer in 1997.  Apart from practicing in the labour courts, Dr Grogan conducts private arbitrations and continues to publish and lecture. He also edits a number of leading publications, including Employment Law. He has been a part-time senior commissioner of the CCMA, a panelist on a number of bargaining councils, and has acted as a judge in both the Labour and High Courts.

Puke Maserumule is a Director of Maserumule Incorporated and Maserumule Employment Consultancy (Pty)Ltd. He has acted as a Labour Court Judge periodically since 1997 and has also acted as a High Court Judge. In his capacity as Acting Judge of the Labour Court, he has been involved in interpreting labour legislation and building the new labour jurisprudence. He is also a member of the legal team that drafted amendments to the Labour Relations Act and Basic Conditions of Employment Act. He is an accredited mediator and arbitrator of Tokiso.

Susan Stelzner is a director in the employment law department at Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs. Susan has more than 20 years' experience in all aspects of employment law, advising mainly corporate clients, including multinationals and foreign companies with interests in SA. She has acted as a mediator and arbitrator and as a Judge of the Labour Court on a number of occasions. Susan has contributed to several books, regularly writes articles for various publications and the press and presents seminars and training courses on various aspects of labour legislation. She is an Honourary life member of SASLAW and currently senior vice-chair of the International Bar Association's Discrimination Committee. She has co-chaired sessions at the IBA's employment law conferences in Barcelona, Copenhagen, London and Berlin and the annual conferences in Singapore and Madrid over the past 5 years.
